How do you build out a yoga studio?
The open practice room may be the visual centerpiece, but HVAC, occupancy, bathrooms, acoustics, flooring, storage, accessibility, and guest flow often determine whether the space actually works.
Before the lease
Confirm the space can support the use.
Review zoning and permitted use, occupancy, egress, bathrooms, accessibility, HVAC capacity, electrical service, parking, neighbors, sound transfer, and landlord work-letter requirements.
Design
Plan the guest journey and practice conditions.
Map arrival, check-in, shoe and coat storage, changing, bathrooms, practice, retail, staff functions, and cleaning. For heated yoga, mechanical and moisture-control planning becomes even more important.
Budget
Separate base construction from specialty needs.
Demolition, walls, utilities, permits, flooring, lighting, millwork, signage, sound treatment, equipment, and furnishings should each be identified so the budget is not hiding major categories.
Construction
Sequence the work toward opening.
Coordinate permits, long-lead items, landlord approvals, contractor work, specialty equipment, inspections, furnishings, and final setup against the target opening date.
